Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry for N’Golo Kante, but the midfielder is likely to remain at Chelsea, according to the player’s camp.

32-year-old Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante recently made his long-awaited return from injury, playing his first minutes since August at the start of this month.

With a contract until the summer, Kante’s future is up in the air, but his camp claim he ideally wants to remain in London.

Arsenal reportedly made an enquiry for the player, but an extended stay at Chelsea remains the most likely option.

“N’Golo wants to continue his career in London, the place he’s used to,” a member of Kante’s camp told Le Parisien (via GFFN).

“He liked working with Antonio Conte, but he was fired by Tottenham, Arsenal also enquired. I think he’ll extend his contract at Chelsea before perhaps leaving for the Gulf in two or three years.”

Until Kante signs that new contract, it’s not impossible he could make a summer move across London.

Chelsea’s spending spree has increased the competition for places, Kante would be available on a free transfer, and Arsenal are the more attractive destination – with Champions League football almost a certainty.

Chelsea would likely need to win the Champions League to make it back in for next season, and Kante played 75 minutes of their 2-0 first-leg defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Even if they make it past Madrid with an unlikely big victory at Stamford Bridge next week, Chelsea would then probably face Manchester City in the semi-finals. Their chances are slim at best.

But it’s hard to say how serious Arsenal’s interest is, and the Gunners will probably look to prioritise other longer-term midfield signings in the summer.
