Bukayo Saka apologised to Arsenal fans after missing a crucial penalty in the team’s frustrating 2-2 draw with West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners’ title hopes took another hit as they let a 2-0 lead slip away for the second consecutive game.

Arsenal had a golden opportunity to extend their lead to 3-1 after Michail Antonio’s handball led to a penalty. Saka, who had not missed a penalty since the Euro 2020 final, stepped up to the spot.

Unfortunately, the young Englishman put it wide, and West Ham capitalised on the miss by equalising soon after.

In a post-match Instagram message, Saka expressed his regret over the missed penalty and his determination to make things right.

“Regardless of the outcome, I’ll always accept my responsibility. Apologies Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to make it right,” he wrote.

This draw marks the second straight game in which Arsenal dropped points, reducing their lead over Manchester City to just four points.

City also have a game in hand, which further increases the pressure on the Gunners. The two teams are set to face off at the Etihad in a couple of weeks in what is shaping up to be a title-deciding encounter.

Arsenal will need to regroup and address the issues that have led to these recent setbacks.

With the Premier League title race intensifying, there is now no room for error as the season enters its final stages.
