Arsenal target Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans

Arsenal have reportedly begun preliminary discussions to explore the possibility of signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old Belgian midfielder’s contract with Leicester is set to expire on June 30, which could make him an attractive option for the Gunners.

Emirates Stadium dreams of a zero-cost arrival

With Tielemans not renewing his contract with Leicester, Arsenal see an opportunity to acquire the talented midfielder for free after trying to sign him in January.

This move would undoubtedly be one of the most notable additions to Mikel Arteta’s squad for the 2023/2024 season.

Competition from other clubs

While Arsenal has expressed interest in Tielemans, they are not the only club vying for the Belgian star.

Both Newcastle United and Barcelona have shown interest in securing his services.

With multiple offers on the table, Tielemans will have to carefully consider his options before making a decision.

Tieleman’s career to date

Born on May 7, 1997, in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium, Tielemans began his football career in the youth academy of Anderlecht, one of Belgium’s top clubs.

He made his first-team debut for Anderlecht at the age of 16 in July 2013, quickly establishing himself as a key player for the team. During his time at Anderlecht, Tielemans won two Belgian First Division A titles (2013-2014 and 2016-2017) and one Belgian Super Cup (2013).

His impressive performances earned him the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year award in 2017.

In the summer of 2017, Tielemans signed with AS Monaco, for a reported fee of around €25 million. He spent two seasons at Monaco, making over 65 appearances and scoring six goals.

In January 2019, Tielemans joined English Premier League side Leicester City on loan for the remainder of the season. His performances during this loan spell were impressive, leading to Leicester City making the move permanent in the summer of 2019 for a club-record fee of around €45 million.

Since joining Leicester City, Tielemans has become an integral part of the team, helping the Foxes win the FA Cup in the 2020-2021 season. He has made over 180 appearances for the club, contributing 28 goals and 25 assists from midfield.

On the international stage, Tielemans has represented Belgium at various youth levels and made his senior debut in November 2016.

He has since become a regular fixture in the national team, featuring in both the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2020 tournaments.
