Arsenal’s Women’s Super League (WSL) campaign took a hit as they suffered a loss to league leaders Manchester United on Wednesday night. Alessia Russo’s goal was enough for United to secure a victory, but the bigger concern for the Gunners was the injury to their star defender and England captain Leah Williamson.

Injury mars the WSL clash

During the first half of the game, Williamson went down with a knee injury after winning a ball in midfield.

She seemed to twist her knee, prompting the medical team to surround her for several minutes.

With the World Cup just around the corner, concerns about Williamson’s fitness are growing.

Arsenal face a tough challenge against Wolfsburg in the Champions League semi-finals on Sunday, and Williamson’s potential absence would be a massive blow.

Jonas Eidevall, Arsenal’s manager, could not provide any immediate update on the severity of Williamson’s injury.

He confirmed that it was too early to make a definitive conclusion after the game.

Rivals express concern and support

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner shared his concern for Williamson, stating, “Nobody wanted to see that. I’ve just seen her inside.

“She seemed in really high spirits. We hope it’s something minor and it’s just a precaution. All of us want to see her leading the Lionesses in the summer, so we wish her all the very best.”
