Arsenal join the race for talented Flamengo winger Matheus Gonçalves

Arsenal are reportedly among the European clubs closely monitoring the progress of 17-year-old Flamengo winger Matheus Gonçalves.

The Brazilian sensation has caught the attention of multiple clubs, including Ajax, Manchester City, and Benfica, thanks to his impressive performances in the top flight.

Rapid development for Gonçalves at Flamengo

The left-footed right winger has experienced a meteoric rise this season, making his debut for Flamengo in October last year.

Since then, he has made 9 appearances and scored three goals at the highest level, with his performances garnering interest from clubs across Europe.

European clubs closely watching the young talent

According to Brazilian media, representatives from Arsenal, Ajax, Manchester City, and Benfica have attended several matches to observe Gonçalves in action.

The promising youngster will turn 18 on August 18, making him eligible for a transfer in the upcoming window.

Gonçalves signed a contract extension with Flamengo until September 2025, ahead of his debut.

Arsenal faces competition for Brazilian talents

Gonçalves is not the only Brazilian talent catching the eye of European clubs.

Nineteen-year-old Palmeiras striker Giovani is also reportedly on the radar of Ajax, Newcastle United, and Everton.

Ajax made a €12 million bid for Giovani last summer, which was deemed insufficient.
