Arsenal Women are preparing for a crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against VfL Wolfsburg following a 2-2 draw in the first match.

With more than 55,000 tickets sold, the showdown in London on Monday is set to be an intense battle for a place in the final in Eindhoven.

Wolfsburg’s perspective on the clash

Wolfsburg’s German international Svenja Huth recently spoke about her team’s chances of reaching the final and the development of women’s football in general.

She emphasised the importance of staying focused and maintaining a high level of concentration for the entire match against Arsenal.

Huth said, “That we have to keep our concentration high for 90 or maybe even 120 minutes. Of course, Arsenal have special qualities which they showed with the two goals.”

She is confident that the experience gained from previous pressure situations, such as the recent DFB Cup semi-final against Bayern Munich, will help her team.

Preparing for a packed stadium

The anticipation of a full stadium with loud fans in London adds to the excitement of the semi-final clash.

Huth recognises the challenges of communication on the pitch in such an atmosphere and suggests that the team will use agreed-upon signs to react to certain scenarios during the game.

She added, “We will agree on signs in advance to be able to react to certain scenarios.”

Huth’s experiences in women’s football

Having already won the Champions League in 2015 with 1. FFC Frankfurt, Huth reminisces about the 2-1 final victory against Paris Saint-Germain.

She acknowledges that women’s football has evolved significantly since then, with improvements in athleticism, dynamics, and technique.

Huth also appreciates the increased attention and coverage of women’s football, stating, “It’s great that our games can now be seen regularly on DAZN, Sky, or MagentaSport. You can tell in many places that things are going in the right direction.”

Huth is also looking forward to the World Cup this summer, believing that it could be the best World Cup yet, thanks to the growth of European women’s football and the presence of top nations with outstanding players.

She said, “I expect a really good World Cup that everyone can look forward to.”
