Arsenal loanee Tim Akinola is fit for match action despite not being selected by Chesterfield in recent fixtures, according to a report.
Arsenal midfielder Tim Akinola has spent the season on loan with Chesterfield, making 27 appearances so far, 11 in the starting lineup.
The 21-year-old had to fight for his place in the Chesterfield team despite regular praise from the supporters, but he finally began to get a consistent run of minutes in mid-February.
From February 11th to March 11th, Akinola started seven of Chesterfield’s nine league games, and he played the full 90 minutes of the first three games in March.
As a result, when he dropped out of the squad on March 14th, the assumption was that he’d picked up an injury.
Akinola then missed out on Chesterfield’s next five fixtures, further fueling that theory.
Yet All Nigeria Soccer report that Akinola is in “good physical condition”. His absence is purely a decision by the manager, and there’s no suggestion of an injury.
The reasoning behind the decision remains a mystery, but it looks like being a frustrating end to the loan for Akinola.
Even now, Chesterfield fans are largely complimentary about Akinola in the replies to social media posts about the situation. Many don’t seem to understand why he hasn’t played more.
Akinola has a contract with Arsenal until 2024, and ANS report that clubs in the English Football League, Austria, and Israel are monitoring him ahead of the summer window.
