Arsenal Women have opted to extend the contract of their Austrian goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger for another year. The 27-year-old, who joined the North London club in May 2019 from Bayern Munich, will now remain with the Gunners until the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Zinsberger has been instrumental in Arsenal’s recent success, helping the team clinch the Continental Cup earlier this month by defeating Chelsea at Selhurst Park. The talented shot-stopper has been a consistent presence in goal, amassing nearly 100 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Despite signing Canadian goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo in January, Arsenal Women’s head coach Jonas Eidevall has maintained faith in Zinsberger as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Austrian international is set to face stiff competition from both D’Angelo and Kaylan Marckese in her bid to retain the starting spot.

In other news, Arsenal Women suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night. Lea Schuller’s header before half-time proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Allianz Arena.

Despite a spirited performance by the Gunners, who dominated possession and created several goal-scoring opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net. Arsenal will be looking to overturn the deficit in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 29th.

Over 200 Arsenal supporters travelled to Munich to support the team, and their presence will be crucial as the Gunners look to stage a comeback in front of their home crowd.

Eidevall expressed his pride in the team’s performance and urged them to be more efficient with their chances in the second leg.

Tickets for the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final between Arsenal Women and Bayern Munich are still available for purchase.
