Robin van Persie thinks Arsenal will win the Premier League this season, though he adds that this is the most difficult part of any campaign.

With 10 games remaining, Arsenal sit at the top of the Premier League, eight points clear of Manchester City – who have a game in hand.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been excellent throughout the campaign so far, winning 22 games and often deserving more from their three draws and three defeats.

Yet the title race is far from over. Arsenal still have to play away at Anfield, the Etihad Stadium, and St. James’ Park, and they have to welcome Chelsea and Brighton to the Emirates.

City will face tests as well, including a match against Liverpool this weekend and a tricky game away at Brentford on the final day, but they seem to have the favourable run-in, balancing out Arsenal’s point advantage.

All the same, former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie thinks it’s the Gunners’ year.

“If you look at this period of time, this is where every single point really counts,” van Persie said.

“They [had] a couple of difficult games, they got three points there. That is what a champions team is made of, they’ve been proving that.

“But the last stretch is always the difficult one. So it’s interesting to see.

“My personal feeling is that they will go for it and that they will win the league. And it’s been a while, so I’m happy for them to win it!”

One aspect that should work in Arsenal’s favour is that City are still competing on three fronts, whilst the Gunners will now be fully focused on the Premier League.

It remains to be seen how Pep Guardiola allocates his priorities between the league, the Champions League, and the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United, but that’s at least a problem Arteta doesn’t have.
