Thierry Henry turns down France women’s national team coaching role, eyes USMNT head coach position instead.
Thierry Henry has declined an offer to coach the France women’s national team following Corrine Diacre’s dismissal, according to French federation committee member Jean-Michel Aulas.
Henry, who previously served as an assistant coach with Belgium, is reportedly interested in the vacant U.S. men’s national team head coach position.
The USMNT has been without a permanent coach since Gregg Berhalter’s contract expired in 2022. Henry has both played and coached in Major League Soccer and expressed his interest in managing at any level, including the U.S. team.
Meanwhile, the French Football Federation is considering other candidates like Patrice Lair, Gerard Precheur, Sonia Bompastor, Sandrine Soubeyrand, and Hervé Renard for the women’s team.
With Thierry Henry focusing on the USMNT head coach position, it highlights his ambition to take on a significant challenge in international football. The U.S. men’s team has shown potential and growth in recent years, and Henry’s experience and knowledge could be crucial in taking the team to the next level.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, which the U.S. will co-host with Canada and Mexico, the appointment of a high-profile figure like Henry could generate excitement and expectations around the team.
On the other hand, the French women’s national team’s search for a new coach continues, and their choice will be crucial in ensuring a successful Women’s World Cup campaign later this year.
