Aaron Ramsdale says he hopes he’ll never have to leave Arsenal and can become a legend at the club over the next decade or longer.

After his impressive performances for Arsenal over the last year, Aaron Ramsdale was one of the players honoured at the London Football Awards on Monday night, winning Goalkeeper of the Year.

Starting every Premier League game for the Gunners this season, Ramsdale is the league’s joint-leading goalkeeper for clean sheets. He and Newcastle United’s Nick Pope both have 12 so far.

Speaking at Monday night’s awards show, Ramsdale reflected on the tumultuous beginning to his career, and how he’s now hoping to settle down for the long term at Arsenal.

“It was a difficult period moving club to club, even before that, going on loan and stuff,” Ramsdale said of the early stages of his career.

“I never imagined leaving Bournemouth after a year, I never imagined leaving Sheffield United after a year.

“But this is a place now where I can see myself for 10, 12, 15 years. That’s the aim, that’s the goal, to stay at the top for that amount of time.

“And hopefully, never have to leave, and become a real hero and legend at this football club.”

Ramsdale has already made more appearances for Arsenal (66) than any of his previous clubs, with Sheffield United (46) the next closest.

With the goalkeeper’s shot-stopping prowess combined with his ability on the ball, he’s become a key member of Mikel Arteta’s league-leading side this campaign.

Still so young for a goalkeeper, there’s no reason why Ramsdale can’t spend the next decade or more in north London.

Ramsdale is currently under contract until 2025, but reports earlier in the season suggested a new deal is on the agenda for Arsenal.

The sooner they can get his future sorted out, the better.
