The ball dropped to him on the edge of the box in the final seconds of the game, and with all the points in front of him, he chested it down before hitting it past Neto with his left foot.

Nelson explained that he originally intended to hit the ball with his right foot but decided to switch to his left when he saw a defender coming out to block the shot. He described the goal as a result of his split-second decision-making and expressed his delight at having secured the three points for his team.

“It dropped onto my right,” he said. “I wanted to hit it with my laces on my right but I saw the defender coming out, so I decided to shift it onto my left and then just had to hit through it, aim for the top bins – something like that! I’m just happy it went in – I’m delighted with it.

“I didn’t start the game, but I came on with the instructions just to play forward, try and get as many one-on-one opportunities as I can to create something, and I did.”

Nelson had come off the bench to make an instant impact, laying on an assist for Ben White’s equalising goal before scoring the winner himself.

The young winger also took the time to praise the Arsenal supporters. He expressed his appreciation for their support and hoped that they would continue to carry the team forward in the coming games.

“I think the stadium has been like this since the start of the season,” Nelson added. “Of course, when you get a late goal like that, everyone’s amongst it.

“It’s just amazing to celebrate with the supporters and the support we get, so hopefully we can carry it on for the next few games.”

The victory over Bournemouth was crucial for Arsenal, as it kept them five points clear at the top of the table.
