Arsenal winger Marquinhos picked up a red card in the final moments of Norwich City’s draw away to Huddersfield Town earlier this week, receiving a three-match suspension for a straight red for serious foul play.

As Norwich attempted to play the ball forward in injury time, Marquinhos jumped up for a header, and a stray arm caught an opponent in the face.

The referee judged it to be a deliberate elbow and sent the Arsenal man off.

Yet the replays appeared to show that Marquinhos had no awareness of the player running into his arm from behind him, so it was certainly a harsh decision.

Norwich fans on social media called the sending-off “disgraceful” and “farcical“.

Norwich appealed the red card, and it’s now been confirmed that the dismissal has been overturned following an appeal hearing.

Marquinhos will no longer have to serve a suspension, and he can return to action as soon as Saturday afternoon if selected. Norwich travel away to Stoke City at 3pm GMT.
