Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has explained how his client’s move to Arsenal came about, with Chelsea’s pursuit of Enzo Fernandez playing a role.

Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the January transfer window, and he’s already played a role in the Gunners’ title challenge.

With Arsenal struggling with a couple of midfield injuries, Jorginho came into the side against Manchester City, Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Everton.

Mikel Arteta’s side won three of the four matches, with Jorginho playing a major role in Emi Martinez’s injury-time own goal to give them that Villa win.

But the move to sign the former Chelsea midfielder only came to fruition late in the January transfer window, as the Blues pursued a deal for Enzo Fernandez.

“[It’s] a new project,” Santos said. “He has done very well at Chelsea, winning a lot as a team and personally.

“Two days before the transfer market closed, we saw that Chelsea worked to sign Enzo Fernandez. Edu Gaspar wanted the boy and so we made it happen.”

Santos also revealed that they’d talked with some Serie A clubs over a potential summer transfer, but not for January.

With Arsenal making their move in the winter window, they got in ahead of the competition.

Jorginho himself recently discussed how the move came about from his perspective.

“One of the reasons for my move to Arsenal is the presence of Arteta. He called me and in less than two days we did everything,” Jorginho said.

“I was no longer part of Chelsea’s plans and I accepted Arteta’s call…the coach’s technical project suited my characteristics perfectly.”
