Posting on their Instagram page this week, RKC Waalwijk shared a picture of “today’s winning team” in their latest training session. Mika Biereth was front and centre, suggesting he’s close to an on-field comeback for the loan side.

Biereth has been struggling with a knee injury in recent weeks, missing the last six Eredivisie fixtures.

The injury isn’t the first of the 20-year-old’s loan spell so far, as he also suffered fitness setbacks in August and October, keeping him out for a month each.

When Biereth is fit, Waalwijk seem keen enough to use him. Since his debut on September 17th, he’s featured in all eight games he’s been available for.

But it’s hard to get any sort of rhythm going between extended injury absences, so Biereth will hope to stay fit for the remainder of the campaign.

The striker has two goals in his 241 Eredivisie minutes so far, which is a good start.

Waalwijk face PSV in their next match on Sunday, March 5th at 13:30 GMT, but it remains to be seen whether or not Biereth will be ready in time for that game.
