Folarin Balogun has travelled to Orlando, where the USMNT are based over the international break, after pulling out of the England u21 squad.
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun withdrew from the England u21 squad this week, after reporting an injury to the national side.
This withdrawal sparked some speculation, given the timing. After the England squad was announced without Balogun in it, he posted on Instagram: “In life, go where [you’re] appreciated.”
Balogun is eligible for England, Nigeria, and the U.S., with USMNT interim boss Anthony Hudson suggesting they’re pushing to convince him to pick them.
“All I’ll say, there is open dialogue with him and his team,” Hudson said. “That dialogue is continuing. That’s all I can say.”
Balogun’s latest Instagram post certainly did nothing to quell the gossip, as he shared a picture of himself at a location in Orlando, Florida.
This is particularly relevant because the United States Men’s National Team are currently holding a training camp in Orlando.
According to one unconfirmed social media rumour from Tactical Manager, Balogun and his agent are both in Orlando, and they’re set to meet with US Soccer officials and attend the match against El Salvador on Monday.
But Balogun hasn’t committed his future to the USMNT, and he won’t play for them over this break. As far as we know, his injury is genuine.
Speaking to the media about Balogun, Arsenal teammate Matt Turner gave his perspective.
“Spoke to Flo as we had a lot of pre-season together,” Turner said.
“Knew he had some roots in US. He and I developed a relationship quickly. Be a great addition to our national team. Been great on loan. Decision has to come from the heart.”
