Mikel Arteta hopes Eddie Nketiah is going to be alright after limping off the pitch on Wednesday night, amid the striker’s recent injury struggles.
With Gabriel Jesus out injured, Arsenal initially turned to Eddie Nketiah to start matches following the World Cup.
The 23-year-old striker did very well in December and January, scoring six goals in all competitions. But his form seemed to dip in February, as reports emerged that he has been carrying a slight knock.
Nketiah dropped to the bench against Leicester City and Everton this week, with Leandro Trossard replacing him in the starting lineup.
Yet the former Arsenal academy striker still came on in both games, even providing an assist for a late goal against Everton.
After that game, Nketiah could be seen with a bit of a limp, and Mikel Arteta addressed the situation in his post-match press conference.
“Hopefully he is fine, he ended the game well but he has been carrying a little thing,” Arteta admitted.
The good news is that with Trossard performing well up front and Gabriel Jesus finally closing in on a comeback, Arsenal have alternatives if Nketiah isn’t available.
As the England u21 record goalscorer showed on Wednesday, he can have an impact from the bench even if he’s not fit enough to make the starting lineup.
That’s going to be important as we move into the final three months of the season.
