As is customary on the day before a Europa League match, Arsenal held an open training session on Wednesday, with various journalists in attendance.

Charles Watts reports that Gabriel Jesus joined the squad for the session, as he closes in on a comeback from the injury that has seen him miss the last few months of football.

But it wasn’t all good news, with Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard absent as expected, along with the more surprising absence of Kieran Tierney through illness.

Dan George reports that Tierney was at London Colney, but he was spotted walking back to his car and isn’t training at the moment.

The Scotland international now won’t be in the squad in Lisbon.

With Tierney not having featured in Arsenal’s last game against Bournemouth, the timing is frustrating, as Thursday’s match is almost certainly one that he would have expected to start.

Arsenal can’t turn to the academy, as u21 starting left-back Lino Sousa isn’t in the Europa League squad.

The only real options are to keep playing Oleksandr Zinchenko or to bring in Takehiro Tomiyasu on the left instead of the right.
