Arsenal are expected to sell Pablo Mari permanently this summer and will pick up just under £6m from the clause in his loan deal.

Arsenal could receive a £5.9 million fee for Pablo Mari when the transfer window reopens in the summer, provided Monza, the club where he is currently on loan, avoids relegation from the Italian top-flight.

The Spanish defender’s sale is contingent on Monza remaining in Serie A, with an obligation to purchase him for €7m at the end of next season.

Monza are now 11th, 14 points ahead of the drop zone.

Mari, who was Arteta’s first signing as Arsenal head coach in January 2020, is playing his part in Monza’s impressive campaign and has been an ever-present since returning from the stabbing incident last October.

Arsenal paid £4.2m for Mari’s initial loan before forking out even more to make the deal permanent in 2020. That amount has never really been clarified, but transfermarkt report that it was €6m.

Mari began his professional career at RCD Mallorca, where he made his senior debut in 2011.

He later played for other Spanish clubs such as Gimnàstic de Tarragona, Girona, and Deportivo La Coruna.

In January 2020, he joined Arsenal on loan from Brazilian club Flamengo, where he won the Copa Libertadores and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

After an injury-plagued start to his Arsenal career, Mari was loaned out to Monza for the 2021-22 season, where he has become a regular starter in Serie A.

At Arsenal, Mari played 22 times, totalling 1,944 minutes.

He is currently valued at around €5m.
