Arsenal are in talks with Takehiro Tomiyasu over a new contract, according to the latest update from David Ornstein.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are in negotiations with Takehiro Tomiyasu over a new contract, with the Gunners having already made an offer to the defender.
The two parties are reportedly expected to reach an agreement in due course, with Tomiyasu’s current deal lasting until 2025 with an option to extend to 2026.
Tomiyasu provided two assists for Arsenal on Wednesday night, before coming off at half-time for a rest, with the Gunners already 5-0 up.
Ornstein’s update follows a recent report from Sami Mokbel for the Daily Mail confirming that Arsenal were preparing to open talks with the defender.
The Mail claim the Gunners were even considering listening to offers for Tomiyasu in the summer, before Jurrien Timber’s injury put the Japanese international back into the team. But his form since then has turned things around.
There was significant interest from around the Premier League and Europe over the summer, including from Bayern Munich.
But the Evening Standard write that Arsenal will reject any approach for Tomiyasu in January, fully intending to keep a player viewed as a valuable member of the squad.
Ben Jacobs claims in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Tomiyasu himself isn’t looking to move elsewhere anyway. He’s happy at Arsenal, and it’s just a case of discussing new terms with the Gunners.
