Arsenal confirmed a new long-term contract for Gabriel Martinelli on Friday, one of a few high-profile deals the club have been trying to get over the line this season.

The other two big ones are contracts for William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, and Mikel Arteta confirmed their extensions are on the agenda.

“Part of the plan is to extend the contracts of our biggest talents at the club and commit them for the future,” Arteta began.

“We are trying to do that. We have started with Gabi, which is good news. The others will be done whenever we can, but we have to agree on that.”

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are working on extensions for the two players, and Kaya Kaynak adds that talks are thought to be progressing positively in both cases.

Recent rumours suggested Saliba’s agent was set to hold further talks with Arsenal last week, though we haven’t yet had an update on how they went.

James Olley reported that Arsenal were planning to step up talks with Saliba’s representatives, with the agent travelling to London.

Saliba’s camp rejected Arsenal’s last contract offer, with a significant difference between the player’s demands and the Gunners’ proposal.

The Athletic recently reported that one of the reasons that Saliba’s contract remains unsigned is that Arsenal weren’t offering a wage that his representatives feel is fair considering the length of time they want him to time him down for.

But all sides remain willing to agree on an extension, and Arsenal are confident they’ll find that agreement.

The centre-back’s contract expires in 2024, after Arsenal recently took up their option to extend it, with Saka in exactly the same situation.
