Though he’s also eligible for England and Russia, Alexei Rojas Fedorushchenko has never made any secret of his desire to play for Colombia.

“I would choose the Colombian National Team, although I can play with the England National Team and even with Russia as well,” Rojas Fedorushchenko said in 2020.

“Among the three options, it seems to me that Colombian football is the best. I like Colombia a lot.”

Rojas got the chance to make his debut for the Colombia u20s in December, playing 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw with Peru, and he was subsequently called back for the u20 South American Championship held over the last month or so.

It’s never easy to earn minutes as a goalkeeper, particularly a goalkeeper playing above his age group, and Rojas didn’t make it onto the pitch during the tournament.

But he was still part of the squad that ended up finishing in third place and receiving bronze medals.

Rojas will now return to the Arsenal academy, posting a message on social media ahead of his comeback.

“Thanks to life for allowing me to live this beautiful experience,” Rojas wrote on Twitter. “A tournament where we have grown as individuals, as a team, as a national team, and most importantly as a country.

“Much has been learned and we will use all the learning to continue growing and preparing ourselves for what is to come.”

The teenager was Arsenal’s first-choice u18 goalkeeper in the first few months of the season, even earning an u21 squad call-up in October.

His international duties have prevented any recent appearances, but he’s likely to return to the u18 starting eleven once he’s available again.
