Arsenal admire Jude Bellingham but probably don’t have the finances to do a deal this summer, according to a report.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Arsenal are one of Jude Bellingham’s admirers ahead of a possible summer transfer, but they’re among the clubs that probably don’t have the finances to do the deal.

With Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid all in the race, as well as possibly Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund want around €150m for the midfielder.

The Athletic previously wrote that even with a return to the Champions League, that fee and Bellingham’s wages would be a stretch.

Then there’s the fact Arsenal are a long way behind the competition in trying to convince the player to join.

The likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid have already put in a lot of work to convince Bellingham to pick them, with others also positioning themselves for a summer bid.

This one looks like a non-starter at the moment.

Arsenal did previously look at signing Bellingham, with former Head of International Recruitment Francis Cagigao pushing a move a few years ago. But even then, it was deemed too costly.

“I saw him for the first time when he was 16 years old,” Cagigao recalled. “I wanted to sign him for Arsenal, but he was already too expensive.

“He is very good. What is clear is that if they have paid that amount for Enzo (Fernandez, who cost €120m+), it will also be paid for Bellingham.”
