Emiliano Martinez, the Argentine goalkeeper and World Cup champion, has set his sights on winning the Champions League and, to do that, he is eyeing up a move to PSG.

Currently under contract with Premier League club Aston Villa, Martinez spoke to France Football about his desire to play in and win the Champions League, although he recognises that it may be difficult with Villa.

The 30-year-old, who made an obscene gesture with the World Cup Golden Glove trophy and taunted the French during the celebrations, including striker Kylian Mbappé, expressed interest in playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

He acknowledged the club’s prestige and its aspirations to win the Champions League every year.

However, a move to PSG might not be possible.

The club has no need for another goalkeeper, as they already have Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is a world-class keeper and has a contract until 2026.

Additionally, PSG management is unlikely to bring in Mbappé’s biggest provocateur into the squad, no matter how much Martinez tries to backtrack on his comments and actions.

Martinez has had something of a journeyman career despite his years at Arsenal, beginning in 2010 when he moved from Independiente U20 to the Arsenal reserves.

He had several loan spells before finally settling at Aston Villa in 2020 for €17.4m.

His rise to success began when he started working with a psychologist and made the decision to not go on loan anymore.

He made his debut for the Argentine national team in 2021 and went on to win the World Cup in Qatar just last year.

The goalkeeper says he was once on the brink of quitting football, but with the help of a psychologist and the birth of his son, he found the motivation to succeed and is now determined to achieve his goal of winning the Champions League.
