The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Arsenal have an agreement in place with Myles Lewis-Skelly for him to sign a scholarship deal with the club, despite plenty of outside interest.

The deal would last until 2025, with Lewis-Skelly still too young to sign a longer professional contract.

Once the midfielder turns 17 in September, Arsenal would be able to sign him up to a three-year professional deal lasting until 2026. Then once he’s an adult, they’ll be able to extend again for five years or more.

So Lewis-Skelly may well be set for a few new contracts in the coming years, but for now, the good news is that he’s signing on as a scholar. His previous deal would have expired this summer.

Lewis-Skelly has been at Arsenal since he was eight years old, as well as playing for England up to the u17 level.

The 16-year-old has been fantastic in Arsenal’s FA Youth Cup run this season, setting up goals against Millwall and Newcastle, and winning a penalty against Watford.

More than the goal involvements, Lewis-Skelly has just generally impressed onlookers with his expert passing and dribbling skills at the base of Jack Wilshere’s midfield.

Arsenal have now made the semi-finals, with a home game against either Manchester City or Oxford United to come – depending on the outcome of their quarter-final match on March 7th.

Lewis-Skelly has regularly been involved with the Arsenal first team in training and he’s made a few appearances for the u21s on top of his regular u18 involvement.

He’s likely to be a key player for the academy and beyond in the years to come, so this is a very positive agreement for Arsenal.
