Arsenal 15-year-old Chido Obi has been called up by the England u16s for their friendly matches against Cyprus, Scotland, and Denmark this week, as part of a 23-player squad.

Obi had previously represented the Denmark u16s, scoring against Belgium over the October break. The youngster was born in Denmark, and he’s also reportedly eligible for Nigeria.

But England are the latest national team to make their move for the Arsenal man.

Despite his age – he’ll only turn 16 in November – Obi has already represented Arsenal at u18 level on a couple of occasions this season.

The tall teenager certainly doesn’t look out of his depth physically in an older age group, and that has likely helped him as well.

It’s certainly interesting that Obi will be involved in the squad for England against Denmark, as there’s presumably no reason he couldn’t have represented the opposition instead.

Perhaps that’s a sign of his future international intentions, or maybe he just wants to give both teams a try before making a decision.

Khari Ranson represented the England u16s earlier in the season, saving two penalties in a shootout.
