Arsenal Women had a busy transfer window signing three players, bringing two players back from loan and sending one player on loan letting one go. Unfortunately, they could not close a deal on a striker, but it is nevertheless a good January window for the club.

Arsenal transfer window out:

Jordan Nobbs (Aston Villa) left the club in search of game time.

Jonas Eidevall gave her little playing time and she needed to play to get a chance to break into the Lionesses squad for the World Cup.

Mana Iwabuchi (Tottenham – loan)

Jonas Eidevall believes she does not fit the profile needed to play in is team. No game time meant she had to go.

Very unlucky to arrive at the club when the manager who signed her left.

Arsenal transfer window in:

Fran Stenson (Birmingham – end of loan)

The goalkeeper has been recalled from her loan according to Blues.

Gio Queiroz (Everton – end of loan)

The winger has been recalled due to the Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema’s injuries.

Sabrina D’Angelo (Vittsjo)

The goalkeeper has come in to compete with Manuela Zinsberger for the number 1 shirt.

Has already overtaken Kaylan Marckese in the pecking order.

Victoria Pelova (Ajax Amsterdam)

The playmaker has come to add depth in the squad. She can play at number 8, number 10 and could even play on both wings if needed as she is very strong technically and pacey, although Jonas Eidevall is likely to use her only in central midfield.

Kathrine Kühl (FC Nordsjælland)

Another player who will play in central midfield, likely in the box-to-box role, another player who will add depth to the squad.

All the positions are now doubled or tripled up, except for the number 9 spot.

This is why Arsenal pursued unsuccessfully Debinha, Lacasse and Russo.

GK: Zinsberger, D’Angelo, Marckese, Stenson
DF: Wienroither, Maritz, Williamson, Wubben-Moy, Rafaelle, Beattie, Goldie (injured), Catley, McCabe
MF: Wälti, Little, Kühl, Pelova, Maanum, Miedema (injured)
FW: Mead (injured). Gio, Blackstenius, Foord, Hurtig

A few Academy players have also been called up. Agyemang has played 28 minutes this season, while Williams, Earl and Reid have been unused subs.

It is regrettable that Arsenal did not manage to sign a striker to rotate with Blackstenius.

Nevertheless Foord will play there when needed as seen in the Leeds FA Cup game.

With the three new outfield players who are all attackers, there will be no problem rotating and sending subs late in the games who can have a big impact.

It means the goalscoring pressure can be shared and not be placed on the lone shoulder of the currently misfiring Blackstenius.
