Many of Arsenal’s January loanees appeared in their first matchday squad for their new side on Saturday, with a couple of them making debuts.

Arsenal loaned out a number of players towards the end of the January transfer window, and many of them immediately stepped into the squad for their temporary teams.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (Crystal Palace), Taylor Foran (Hartlepool United), Tom Smith (Colchester United), and Marquinhos (Norwich City) all made the bench on Saturday, whilst Nathan Butler-Oyedeji started for Accrington Stanley against Lincoln City.

Unfortunately, centre-forward Butler-Oyedeji’s debut didn’t quite go to plan, with Accrington having a man sent off in a 3-0 defeat.

But the relegation-threatened side have suffered plenty of similar results in recent months, so that wasn’t entirely surprising.

Lokonga then came off the bench for Palace against Manchester United with his side 2-0 down at Old Trafford. But whilst he helped them to pull one back, he also ended up on the losing side.

Foran, Smith, and Marquinhos didn’t come off the bench in their matches, so they’ll continue to wait for their debuts. So soon after signing, there’s no real cause for concern there right now.

Finally, Derby County were also in action on Saturday, but Arsenal loanees Kido Taylor-Hart and Billy Vigar weren’t involved.

The expectation is that the duo will start out with Derby’s u21 side, so they’ll hope to be in action in the Premier League Cup fixture against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
