Football Insider report that Stoke City, Queens Park Rangers, and Swansea City are all targeting a move for Matt Smith this month.

Arsenal are reportedly open to both permanent and loan offers for Smith, and the Championship trio are readying permanent bids.

Smith had the option to go on loan over the summer, but he opted to stay at Arsenal to “give it one more go” at breaking into the Gunners’ first team.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t panned out as planned in the first half of the season.

Though Smith has made the senior squad on a number of occasions (five times in the Europa League, twice in the Premier League), he hasn’t played a first-team minute this campaign.

Instead, the 22-year-old has spent his time playing for the Arsenal u21s, captaining the side in a Premier League 2 title challenge. The u21s are one of five teams within a few points of each other at the top of the division right now.

It looks as though a January transfer would probably be the best thing for Smith, to really get his senior career going in earnest.

The youngster has contributed a lot with the Arsenal academy and he’s consistently given Mikel Arteta a strong option in training sessions. But with limited on-field minutes on offer, a move elsewhere might make the most sense.
