Marquinhos won’t leave Arsenal on loan this month unless they sign another wide forward first, according to a report.

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal aren’t planning to loan Marquinhos during the January transfer window until they’ve signed a wide forward.

The player is up for a loan move if the Gunners can complete a deal for top January target Mykhaylo Mudryk, but he’ll have to stay if they can’t.

In the meantime, Marquinhos is reportedly one of those hoping for a start for Arsenal against Oxford United in the FA Cup on Monday night.

Back in November, the same outlet suggested that Arsenal were weighing up whether to loan Marquinhos out in the January window.

The Gunners reportedly considered that possibility in the summer as well, but eventually decided to keep him for the Europa League.

In a way, that decision was for the best, as Marquinhos provided a goal and an assist to win away at FC Zurich, a win which ultimately got Arsenal first place in the group.

Yet Marquinhos has still only played 210 minutes in all competitions for the Arsenal senior side this season. It’s going to be difficult to build up any momentum in those circumstances.

Ideally, Arsenal will quickly wrap up a deal for a winger before loaning out Marquinhos. That would be for the best for both the club and the player. But there are no guarantees in a tricky January window.
