Arsenal are reportedly prepared to pay Martin Zubimendi’s £52.5m release clause to sign the midfielder from Real Sociedad but the player wants to wait until the summer to move.

Arsenal are keen to bring in at least one more midfielder and have, apparently, identified Real Sociedad’s 23-year-old, Martin Zubimendi, as a player they would quite like to see in red and white.

The defensive midfielder is under contract until 2027, having signed a new deal in October 2022.

A product of Real Sociedad’s youth system, Zubimendi’s agents were in London for talks on Friday but the player seems in no rush to leave his boyhood club, despite Arsenal’s willingness to pay his release fee.

Zubimendi is currently valued at around €40m.

ZUBIMENDI HAPPY TO MAKE GUNNERS WAIT UNTIL THE SUMMER Daily Mail23 Jan 2023 ARSENAL are considering a move for Martin Zubimendi but the Spain midfielder does not wish to leave Real Sociedad this month. Zubimendi, 23, has a £52.5million release clause and Arsenal are willing to pay it. His agents were in London on Friday for talks but Sociedad are Zubimendi’s boyhood club and they stand third in La Liga, so any deal is likely to be shelved for now. Arsenal are continuing talks over a move for Real Valladolid right back Ivan Fresneda. The 18-year-old also had interest from Newcastle but they are now back on the trail of West Ham right back Harrison Ashby, 21.
