Polish outlet Meczyki report that Serie A side Spezia Calcio and Arsenal are in very advanced talks over the transfer of 22-year-old defender Jakub Kiwior.

The transfer is reportedly already close to completion, with the player likely to complete the Premier League move ahead of domestic interest from Juventus, Napoli, and AC Milan.

The deal will cost over €20m (£17.5m), with talks approaching a conclusion.

Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio confirm the deal is close, with Romano confirming the deal will be over €20m and Di Marzio claiming it will be in the region of €25m (£21.9m).

Kiwior would join Mikel Arteta’s squad as an alternative to Gabriel Magalhaes at left-centre-back, as a left-footed defender also comfortable playing at left-back or in midfield.

The Polish defender made his international debut last June, and he’s gone on to start every game for his country since then – including four starts at the World Cup as Poland kept two clean sheets.

Standing at 6’2″, Kiwior is under contract with Spezia until 2025, having only joined them in 2021.

But he’s now set to become one of the most expensive Polish players of all time, only behind Robert Lewandowski, Krzysztof Piatek, Arkadiusz Milik, and Grzegorz Krychowiak.

Kiwior made 20 consecutive appearances in Serie A and the Italian cup competitions for Spezia this season, but he dropped to the bench for their most recent fixture against Torino. Perhaps now we know why.
