Arsenal have opened talks with Real Valladolid and Ivan Fresneda’s camp, with the possibility of a transfer as soon as next week.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have opened talks to explore the signing of Ivan Fresneda, with discussions taking place with both Real Valladolid and the player’s agent and a chance the player moves next week.
The Gunners are set to hold a new round of negotiations next week, and Fresneda is open to a Premier League move. But Newcastle United also remain keen on the defender.
In a possible sign that Fresneda’s head is elsewhere, the 18-year-old was dropped to the bench on Saturday, having started and completed 90 minutes in each of Valladolid’s previous four league games.
Romano claims Fresneda was indeed benched due to the negotiation with Arsenal, adding that the Gunners are now holding serious talks over the transfer.
Cedric Soares’ potential move to Fulham could also play a role in the deal, as it would free up funds and squad space.
“If Cedric leaves Arsenal to join, probably Fulham, this could be the way for Arsenal to go for Ivan Fresneda,” Romano said.
El Desmarque recently reported that Mikel Arteta had personally convinced Fresneda to choose a move to Arsenal, and the teenager would fly to London in the coming days.
According to the Spanish outlet, the only remaining question is whether Fresneda will join the Gunners immediately or return to Valladolid on loan until the end of the season.
Fresneda has made 12 appearances for Real Valladolid in La Liga and the Copa del Rey this season.
