Moises Caicedo’s efforts to leave Brighton for Arsenal (or Chelsea) have been criticized by Chris Sutton as ‘stupid’ and Sutton certainly is a person intimately familiar with that state of being.

In a discussion on the transfer window in “TRANSFER CONFIDENTIAL,” Chris Sutton said Moises Caicedo is either being poorly advised or is an idiot.

Caicedo had taken to social media to express his desire to join the Premier League giants, saying he was ‘grateful’ to Brighton but wanted to take advantage of the opportunity.

However, Sutton pointed out that Brighton have a right to demand their £80m valuation is met, adding that Caicedo’s social media post was foolish.

He then said that the Ecuadorian is merely copying Leandro Trossard.

“That social media post was downright stupid,” Sutton said.

“He’s seen what Leandro Trossard did to get to Arsenal and he’s copying him. But Brighton have every right to be standing firm on their £80m valuation.”

Arsenal’s second bid of £70m for Caicedo was rejected as Brighton maintain that the 21-year-old is not for sale. Despite the setback, Arsenal continue to negotiate, but haven’t yet made a decision on a third bid.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal may walk away from the deal if their latest offer is not accepted.

The possibility of a club-record offer from Arsenal is being considered, but a deal for Caicedo completing in the next 24+ hours appears doubtful.

It is uncertain if Arsenal has a backup plan if the transfer falls through although speculation is starting to build and they have been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Jorginho.

As for Trossard, he’d had a falling out with the Brighton manager and had absolutely no need to force a move, they were happy to let him go and the player was offered to Arsenal.

So, not like Moises Caicedo in the slightest.
