The official EFL website announced their nominees for the League Two Player of the Month for November on Monday, with Arsenal’s Arthur Okonkwo making the list of four.

Omar Beckles of Leyton Orient, Andy Cook of Bradford City, and Billy Waters of Barrow are the other three players up for the award.

On Okonkwo, the EFL highlight that “clean sheets and Arthur Okonkwo’s agility have been key to Crewe Alexandra’s recent revival” adding that he “produced a series of superb reaction saves in the win over Colchester United and another vital stop…at Swindon Town”.

Those two matches were Okonkwo’s only two league fixtures of the month, and he kept a clean sheet in both as Crewe twice won 1-0.

Though it won’t count towards the award, Okonkwo also kept a clean sheet for Crewe in the FA Cup in a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient, though he did concede as they exited the competition against Barnsley in the next round.

A couple of positive results have helped Crewe to push themselves well clear of the relegation zone (11 points at this stage), to the extent that they’re actually closer to the play-off places (8 points).

Okonkwo has kept seven clean sheets on loan so far, and he’s a regular starter every week in all of Crewe’s key games, from League Two to the League Cup and the FA Cup.

His nomination could make him the second Arsenal loan goalkeeper to win a Player of the Month award for November, after Ovie Ejeheri picked up Chelmsford City’s accolade.

With Runar Alex Runarsson and Tom Smith also starting regularly at Alanyaspor and Bromley FC, Arsenal have clearly picked the right clubs for their goalkeepers this season.
