Sven Mislintat has left Stuttgart at the end of his contract after rejecting an extension and is being heavily linked with a return to the Premier League with Liverpool.

When Arsenal landed Sven Mislintat from Borussia Dortmund it was seen as something of a coup given the German’s history in unearthing players.

But, his arrival came at a time of enormous upheaval at Arsenal and, coupled with personality clashes, along with claims of broken promises, ‘Diamond Eyes’ left the club after just over a year.

During that time, “He signed eight players, of which two were sold for small profits, resulting in a £103 million loss for the club. The largest loss was for Aubameyang, who followed him to Arsenal for £56 million and left for Barcelona for free.”

Farewell Sven, we hardly knew you

Mislintat was appointed Sporting Director at VfB a few months after he left, signing a three-year contract which has now expired. Despite being offered a new deal, Mislintat opted to say goodbye.

The Germans have now replaced him with Fabian Wohlgemuth.

When Mislintat left Arsenal, it was reported that he wanted to stay in the Premier League and, if the latest rumours are to be believed, he could well be back in England soon, this time with Liverpool.

Liverpool’s current Sporting Director, Julian Ward, will leave the club at the end of the season after only a year in the role.

Mislintat is said to be interested in replacing him where he would reunite with Jurgen Klopp. The pair worked together at Dortmund before Klopp left for Liverpool.
