Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that Gabriel Jesus had undergone surgery to correct a problem with his medial knee ligament but they were unable to give a timeframe for his return, so when can we expect to see him back playing for Arsenal?

Just over a year ago, Granit Xhaka injured his medial ligament. The midfielder was expected to be out for around three months but returned after missing 69 days and nine game.

Xhaka, however, did not require surgery, and at the time, Mikel Arteta was very clear – that was an important thing.

“It’s what it is” Arteta said about Xhaka’s problem last year. “His mentality is top. He knows what he needs to do now.

“Hopefully, he can escape surgery as well. That is something that is really, really important and after that start preparing himself in the best possible way because time flies.”

So. Surgery is not good, although I’m sure we all already knew that.

The length of time Gabriel Jesus will be out depends on the specifics of the operation itself.

As Dr. Rajpal Brar from 3CBPERFORMANCE notes a medial trim would mean a 4-6 week layoff, lateral trim 6-8 weeks, a medial repair around 12 weeks and a lateral repair around 16 weeks.

Reports from Brazil claim that Jesus suffered a meniscus and partial collateral ligament injury but there was no rupture.

They expect him to be out around 12 weeks/three months
