PSV centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, on loan from Everton, believes Bukayo Saka is the best player he’s ever faced on the pitch.
Running a Twitter Q&A through PSV’s official account on Tuesday, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite answered a question about the best player he’d ever faced.
“I think it is Bukayo Saka of Arsenal,” Branthwaite answered. “I have played against him twice now. He’s fast, skillful, and strong.”
Branthwaite has indeed faced Saka twice, and the first was probably not a pleasant experience.
Starting for Everton against Arsenal in May, the centre-back watched the Gunners put four goals past his side before Saka was substituted with 12 minutes to go.
Branthwaite then went on loan to PSV over the summer, and he came up against Arsenal again in the Europa League group stage.
That time around, Branthwaite’s side were more successful, winning the game 2-0. Though Saka can’t take too much of the blame for that result, as he only came on as a second-half substitute.
Even then, it was only a couple of questionable refereeing decisions that prevented Saka from having more of an impact on the game.
Saka has a growing reputation in world football, helping Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table over the last few months before receiving rave reviews for his impact at the World Cup during the break.
Branthwaite certainly won’t be the last to talk up Saka’s abilities on the pitch, and the Gunners are lucky to have the young winger.
