There are no guarantees for minutes as a loanee, particularly for goalkeepers.

During his time at Arsenal, Emi Martinez went on multiple loan spells where he made fewer than 10 league appearances, most notably in 2017/18 with Getafe, when he played five times in a full La Liga season. Now he’s a Premier League regular and World Cup winner.

So the good news for Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson has been how often he’s been involved with Alanyaspor so far.

The 27-year-old has started every single league game since his debut, a run of 14 consecutive Super Lig matches, only missing one cup match during that period.

Rúnarsson has had some good moments lately, keeping a couple of clean sheets in his last five games. But he had an unexpected bonus in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Kayserispor, as he assisted the second goal.

With Alanyaspor winning 1-0, Rúnarsson came out of his penalty area between the centre-backs with the ball at his feet, before launching a long ball directly to Yusuf Özdemir, who lifted it over the goalkeeper to double the lead.

There was little Rúnarsson could do about Kayserispor’s goal around the hour mark, but his team managed to score again and hold on for the three points.

Alanyaspor sit ninth in the Super Lig and face 15th-place Kasimpasa in their next game on January 4th.
