Matteo Moretto of Relevo reports that Arsenal want to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the summer transfer window, and they’re starting to lay the groundwork for a deal.

The club have made recent contact with Milinkovic-Savic’s entourage, and the price tag on his head could reportedly drop from €80-100m to €40-50m between now and the summer.

The midfielder has no intention of renewing his contract, and his current deal expires in 2024, so Lazio would need to consider cashing in for less to avoid losing the 27-year-old for nothing.

Arsenal aren’t the only team chasing Milinkovic-Savic, and they may not be the favourite – for various reasons.

Chelsea and Juventus are both interested in the Lazio man, and Juventus have the advantage that the player would reportedly prefer to continue playing in Italy.

His brother plays for Torino, so joining Turin-based Juventus would allow the two of them to live near each other.

On the other hand, Juventus aren’t considering making a particularly high offer, so perhaps Arsenal could outbid them.

There’s also the issue that Milinkovic-Savic’s dream is to play for Real Madrid, though as it stands there’s no indication the La Liga side are after him.

Top clubs are often linked with Milinkovic-Savic, and Arsenal are no exception. But over seven years after he joined Lazio, the Serbian international is still there.

Perhaps this summer is when that finally changes, but it’s probably best to temper your expectations until other sources weigh in.
