Beijing Guoan midfielder and former Arsenal academy player Nico Yennaris (commonly known as Li Ke in China) has been in London working on an injury for a while now.

Back in October, Yennaris released a video showing various clips of him working out at London Colney, and his latest Instagram post on December 9th confirmed he’s continuing his rehabilitation at the Arsenal training ground.

This time, Yennaris was shown back out on the pitch with a football at his feet, and Arsenal Youth report that he’s been training with the Arsenal u21 squad lately – those who haven’t travelled to Dubai.

Yennaris last played for Beijing Guoan in May of 2021, before picking up an injury or condition that he described as “rare to see in footballers”.

The player has since had multiple surgeries to try and get him back fit, and it hasn’t always been an easy road.

In his latest post, Yennaris wrote: “A lot of people doubted me, [saying] ‘he’s done, he won’t be back after this surgery’.”

But the player now insists: “I’m coming back and will be stronger…step by step.”

As well as making 52 appearances for Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Guoan, Yennaris has also played six times for China. In fact, his most recent appearance was for his country, a 20-minute substitute showing against the Maldives in June of 2021.

With any luck, the 29-year-old is getting closer to turning out for club and country once again.
