Joao Felix’s agent has spoken with Arsenal about a possible transfer, but there are other clubs in the race, Atletico Madrid want a huge fee and the player apparently wants to go to PSG.

Atletico Madrid’s CEO Gil Marin sparked rumours of a transfer exit for Joao Felix last week, after telling the media the club need to consider potential bids to sell him.

“Joao Felix has a top level but because of his relationship with Simeone and game time… we feel that makes sense to consider potential bids to sell him,” Marin said.

“I’d love for Joao to continue, but this is the current situation.”

Putting it in even stronger terms, Matteo Moretto reported for Relevo that Felix wants to leave the club, and there’s no going back at this point.

PSG were the first club to make a decisive move for the player, with Chelsea also ahead of the first. But Moretto added that Arsenal have also asked about the player, with Gabriel Jesus set to be out for the next few months.

Jorge Mendes has spoken with Arsenal, along with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Manchester United.

Gianluca Di Marzio, speaking to Soccernews, however, was pretty clear – the player wants to move to PSG.

Calling them the ‘obvious option’, Di Marzio said, “I don’t think that Félix will go to Arsenal because he wants to play for PSG.

“PSG would be the obvious option should he leave Atletico.”

Atletico reportedly have no intention of letting the player go on the cheap.

Despite public acceptance that a sale may be necessary, they’re still hoping to bring in as much as €140m (£120.95m) for Felix, which would represent a profit on their initial purchase price of €127.2m.

Given Felix is still just 23 years old, Atletico could justifiably argue that his best years are ahead of him, and Felix didn’t do potential buyers any favours with his strong form at the World Cup.

The Portugal international grabbed a goal and two assists in four games at the tournament and he looked particularly good in their win over Switzerland.

On top of that, Felix still has a contract with Atletico for another three and a half years (to 2026), so it’s difficult for him to force his way out.

That all makes it hard to imagine Arsenal landing the player in January.
