Arsenal are weighing up a potential move for Matheus Cunha, as the club consider how to deal with the absence of Gabriel Jesus.

Last week, David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha is expected to move to the Premier League in January, with a number of clubs in the mix. Now, the Daily Mail are following up that story.
One of the clubs said to be interested is Arsenal, with the Gunners reportedly weighing up whether to enter the running as Mikel Arteta considers how to deal with the loss of Gabriel Jesus to injury.
Wolves were previously the front-runners for Cunha’s signature, as they looked to do a double deal for Cunha and Felipe, but it’s now uncertain they’ll meet Atletico’s financial demands.
Everton and Leeds United are also showing serious interest, and Aston Villa get a mention but they don’t seem to be as heavily involved as their Premier League rivals.
Cunha is apparently unhappy at Atletico, taking issue with his minimal minutes in Madrid.
Since signing for Atletico in the summer of 2021, Cunha has made 54 appearances, which sounds like an excellent return. But only 11 of those appearances were starts, with the other 43 coming from the bench.
The Brazilian seemingly missed out on a World Cup call-up in part because of how little he was playing for his club.

In total, Cunha has played 1,758 minutes for Atletico Madrid, scoring seven goals, assisting six, and winning two penalties leading to goals.
Playing a key role in 15 goals in 1,758 minutes is certainly not a bad return. But the player will want to be much more involved on the pitch at his next club.
