Arsenal Youth report that both Ben Cottrell and Tino Quamina took part in a training session for the Arsenal academy players in London on Monday.

Cottrell last featured in a competitive fixture for the Arsenal u23s in January, picking up an injury whilst scoring a penalty.

The midfielder confirmed he’d torn his adductor muscle and required surgery, keeping him out for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Cottrell returned to the pitch for the u21s in pre-season, but he then suffered another injury setback just 22 minutes into a game against St. Albans City. As a result, he’s yet to play a competitive minute this campaign.

This is a pretty good time for Cottrell to be closing in on a return, as the u21s are about to go on their winter break.

He’ll hope the pause in fixtures will allow him to make a full recovery before the next Premier League 2 fixture against Manchester City on January 8th.

Cottrell appears to be highly rated at Arsenal, and he’s regularly taken part in first-team sessions under Mikel Arteta. But his injury problems have held him back in 2022.

At the very least, the u21s will be boosted by the midfielder’s return, adding some creativity in the middle of the park.

As for Quamina, the u18 centre-back played the first four fixtures of the season, completing 90 minutes against Chelsea, Fulham, and Spurs before coming off early in an u18 Premier League Cup game against Newcastle United.

The u18s are also about to go on a break, playing against Millwall in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday before they take Christmas and New Year off.

They’ll be back on the pitch against Norwich City on January 7th.
