Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay after Gabriel Jesus’s injury.

Barcelona are, once again, looking to reduce their wage bill and according to Sport in Spain last month, Memphis Depay is one player they are trying to move out of the club this January after failing to get rid of him in the summer.

The 28-year-old Dutch centre-forward is, naturally, generating a lot of interest. Tottenham are one of those clubs but have reportedly been told ‘no’ by Memphis, as have Sevilla.

Barcelona are keen to make a profit, so there will be no Aubameyang-style reciprocal deal here for the Gunners should they decide to try and temp Memphis to London.

That being said, he was yet another they signed for free when he was worth around €45m, so any money they get will be profit.

Seven goals and six assists in 53 games for Manchester United was not a great return but the player has matured since leaving Old Trafford. 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 games for Lyon saw him move to Barcelona in 2021.

He has 14 goals and two assists in 14 games there, but only averages around an hour per appearance.

Memphis was a second half substitute as the Netherlands beat Senegal 2-0 in their first game of the World Cup. When he was brought on after 67 minutes, the scores were level, but an 84th minute goal from another Arsenal target – Cody Gakpo – and a 90th minute strike from Davy Klaassen sealed the win.

Now that the Netherlands are out of the competition, Arsenal are once again being linked with Depay who finished the World Cup with one goal in 300 minutes of gametime.
