Arsenal are one of the best-positioned teams to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, but right now it looks as though he may stay in Spain until the summer.

Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal are one of the best-positioned teams to sign Joao Felix in the January transfer window, but they’re yet to make a decisive move for the player.

The Gunners and Manchester United seem to be at the front of the queue for Felix, but neither are keen to pay the amount Atletico Madrid are asking for a six-month loan.

MD claim that right now, Felix is closer to staying with Atletico until the summer, unless something changes. That would suit the La Liga club, as they believe they can secure a larger fee in the summer window.

In the meantime, Felix continues to play for Atletico. The forward scored the opening goal for the side on Thursday against Elche, heading home from close range.

Speaking after the game, Diego Simeone said: “While he’s here, I’ll try to get the best out of João Felix for the club. Then we will see what’s gonna happen.”

Fabrizio Romano then confirmed that Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes is still in contact with English clubs.

Arsenal’s priority target for the January transfer window is Mykhaylo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk, but David Ornstein reported this week that the Gunners are also keen to bring in Felix.

Though it would only be a loan deal and Felix won’t come cheap, Ornstein suggests the Atletico loan fee will probably come down and his agent knows he needs to make a move happen.

“They (Arsenal) also are keen to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid,” Ornstein said.

“He’s been offered to a number of clubs and at the moment the numbers are too high. Manchester United, Chelsea, many others. Jorge Mendes – his agent – knows [Felix] needs to move, because he’s out of favour at Atletico Madrid.

“Arsenal are keen to do it, but the numbers would need to come down for that to happen. And I think, probably, they will.

“It would only be a six-month loan, and that’s going to be very expensive, but he is a high-quality player.”

Signing both Mudryk permanently and Felix on loan would certainly give Arsenal a boost for the final five months of the season, and help to cover for Gabriel Jesus’ absence. But neither deal is close to completion just yet.
