Speaking to the CBS Sports podcast House of Champions, Fabrizio Romano claimed the reason everything has gone quiet around Youri Tielemans is that he’s made up his mind.

The Leicester City midfielder has reportedly decided not to sign a new contract with his current club, meaning he’ll leave on a free transfer next summer. Tielemans made the decision last year and he’s sticking to it.

Arsenal were linked with Tielemans throughout the summer window, but he never came close to joining the club.

At the time, Leicester were braced for offers that never came, and they may now have missed their chance to cash in. On a free transfer, you’d imagine there are going to be a few clubs interested in the signing in 2023.

As for Tielemans, he insists the reason he didn’t move on in the summer was that he only wanted to join the right club. Evidently, the “right” club didn’t reach an agreement with Leicester to sign him.

“I’m not going to speak too much about my contract situation at the moment,” Tielemans said in September.

“I didn’t leave Leicester in the summer as I always said the project had to be the right one.

“Just because things are getting worse now at Leicester doesn’t mean I should regret [staying].”
