Former Arsenal academy midfielder Yunus Musah, now of Valencia, is refusing to rule out a return to north London in the future.

One of a highly-rated group of youngsters in his age group at Arsenal, Yunus Musah has arguably been the most successful in his young career so far.

Back in 2019, Musah featured in an u16 Arsenal team containing Charlie Patino, Miguel Azeez, Omari Hutchinson, and Khayon Edwards, among others, any of whom could still have big careers in football.

But Musah fast-tracked his own career with a successful switch to Valencia in Spain, breaking into the first-team with the La Liga side. He hit 80 senior appearances for Valencia last month.

The 19-year-old’s progress also caught the eye internationally, with the U.S. Men’s National Team calling him up and giving him 19 caps before his 20th birthday. He’s expected to be in their squad for the World Cup this month.

After making an impression in the senior game, the question now is whether Musah might ever end up back at Arsenal.

“You never know,” Musah said this week. “I had a great time at Arsenal developing there, I still have friends there, the coaches were great, being an Arsenal player in general is great.

“I loved playing for Arsenal. I’ve nothing against the club and if one day it turns out to be that it’s time to go back then it’s possible.

“For now I’m really happy at Valencia and I’m looking forward to carrying this season on in the same way we’re doing now.”

James Benge of CBS Sports reports that a string of Europe’s top clubs are tracking Musah already, and that group is believed to include Liverpool and Arsenal.

Musah has been loyal to Valencia so far, signing a contract extension to 2026 with a €100m release clause. But with Valencia languishing in mid-table, he may find himself wanting to push on and play at another level in the coming years.

For everything Valencia have given him, Musah is yet to play a match of European football, or be seriously involved in a title race.

Perhaps a strong showing at the World Cup – particularly when the United States face England – could help to move things along.
