Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo in the January window with their need now said to be greater than Arsenal’s.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo for a while now but it seems all the drama at Manchester United means they are now considered the favourites to sign him in the January window.

With the club cancelling the contract of their number seven, they are in urgent need for a forward and Sébastien Denis believes they will go all out to sign a player Erik ten Hag is said to be a ‘huge fan’ of.

At the end of the summer, Gakpo was being priced at €45m but PSV are said to be asking in the region of €60m for the 23-year-old who has 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games domestically and two in two at the Qatar World Cup.

Denis writes that “Arsenal continue to follow the player’s performances, but are no longer really in pole position to welcome him. Because according to our information, it is Manchester United who is today the hottest on the file.

“Erik ten Haag, who particularly appreciates the player and who already wanted to recruit him at the end of the summer transfer window, has made him its winter priority.”

Last season, Gakpo scored 21, with 15 assists, in 47 games.
