Borussia Monchengladbach assistant manager Oliver Neuville believes it will be hard for them to keep Arsenal-linked Marcus Thuram.

Following the links to Arsenal this week, Borussia Monchengladbach assistant coach Oliver Neuville has admitted they’re going to find it hard to keep Marcus Thuram in the upcoming windows.

They’re expecting offers from Europe’s other top leagues, and the player only has a deal until 2023, with no expectation he’ll extend.

“He is having a fantastic season with many goals,” Neuville said. “He had a lot of injury problems last term, but still has a contract until the end of the season.

“I think it’s unlikely he will remain at Gladbach, because if he continues scoring like this, there will certainly be offers from Italy, Spain, and England.

“We need to be realistic about his prospects with us, especially now he has been called up by France for the World Cup. The odds on Thuram signing a new contract are not good.”

90min recently reported that Arsenal have been one of the clubs to watch Marcus Thuram in recent weeks, with the player’s contract running down.

David Ornstein reported earlier this year that Arsenal are thought to have previously considered a move for Thuram.

At the time of that report in April, Thuram was in the midst of a three-goal campaign hit by injury.

Yet Thuram has exploded in the new season, scoring 13 goals and assisting four in all competitions for Gladbach to break into the France squad just in time for the World Cup.

It had been well over a year since Thuram’s last appearance in one of Didier Deschamps’ squads before this month, having only made four international appearances in total at the age of 25.

But he’s in the squad now, and he came off the bench in the latter stages of France’s opening group game against Australia on Tuesday.

Ornstein’s report in April suggested Gladbach were looking for £10-15m in the summer. Despite his deal running down by a further few months, they may still want a similar amount in January, following his upturn in form.
